First Impressions | Arrival to Barcelona

Mathew exploring the ICTA rooftop greenhouse tomatoes

All of the students from the University of Utah’s cohort three (finally) arrived to the UAB campus! Despite the stress of delayed flights and the exhaustion of jet lag, we are so excited to continue progressing on our research with the help of our awesome advisers both here and in Utah. Between working on projects, meeting with advisers, and getting out to experience the culture of Barcelona, we know we have plenty of things to keep us busy in the next five weeks we will be here!

In addition to exploring the ICTA building and meeting with many of the people there, we have been able to take in the local sights and energy of Grácia (a suburb of Barcelona), catch up on some of Barcelona’s rich history at the Castle of Montjuïc, and even soak in a little sun at the crowded Barceloneta beach. From the ping-pong tables in the parks, to the multitude of delicious Spanish bakeries, we can already tell there is so much for us to learn about Barcelona and its culture!
