The students from the University of Toledo arrived this week and we’ve already had a great time getting to know one another and learning all sorts of new things together. One of the best parts of having all six IRES participants here and in the same office is being able to collaborate so easily and effectively. Whether someone has a question about analyzing their data for their research or we are all trying to navigate our way through the grocery store, we are all learning a lot from each other!
Everyone in the ICTA building has also been incredibly friendly and helpful. From the Wednesday “coffee break” at ICTA this week we learned about new fruit, met other researchers from all over the world, and one of the PhD students suggested we check out Garraf National Park on a weekend when we have time to hike and explore the nearby beach. Taking his suggestion, we escaped the city and enjoyed the mountain trails, ocean air, and delicious Spanish cuisine near Garraf. Though sometimes the language barrier is apparent (like the sign in the picture…), adjusting to living in a different country and in a different language is an exciting adventure!
