The Ancient City, Tarragona

Updated: Jul 18, 2018

This past weekend, Brooke and I explored the ancient city, Tarragona. There are so many ancient ruins there that date back to BC. It was so exciting seeing the architecture of these buildings that remained standing for all of these years. Because we only visited for a weekend, we were able to just see the Roman ruins. However, it was an amazing experience still with so much to see.

The photo is of the Amphitheatre built in the 2nd century BC. We got to walk around inside and read about all of this rich (and violent) history.

While walking around, we also saw some information on ancient agriculture implemented in the Roman time-period. Apparently, they based their agriculture on the Mediterranean trilogy: cereals (mostly wheat), vines, and olives. Here is a photo (above) of olive trees and vines that were traditional agriculture at the time.

Later that night, we stumbled upon some traditional Catalan human towers! Here, a community of people train to build the largest tower possible. It was impressive to watch, and thankfully nobody fell. The sense of community was overwhelming in this small city!

We can't wait to travel this city and country more, getting the most out of our experience!
